As your Shelby County Commissioner for District 12, I'm excited to share with you our ongoing series of Virtual Panel Discussions on Social Justice. These discussions are designed to engage our community in crucial conversations about equality, diversity, inclusion, and civic engagement.

Understanding Social Justice

Social justice is a fundamental concept that underpins our work in these discussions. At its core, social justice is about ensuring fair and equitable distribution of resources, opportunities, and privileges within society. It encompasses:

• Equal rights and opportunities for all, regardless of race, gender, religion, or socioeconomic status
• Fair access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

On June 18, 2024, we hosted a vibrant discussion exploring the interconnected themes of equality, diversity, and inclusion. This conversation brought together experts and community members to examine how these principles can be better integrated into our local policies and daily lives.

Empowering Equity and Financial Intelligence

Earlier, on April 16, 2024, our panel tackled the critical issue of financial equity. We explored strategies for empowering our community through improved financial literacy and access to economic opportunities.

Addressing Gun Violence and Civic Engagement
