The City of Southaven, led by Mayor Darren Musselwhite, recently hosted the 2023 Annual Veterans Day Appreciation Luncheon at the Southaven Community Safe Room. This event was a powerful demonstration of the city's dedication to honoring and appreciating veterans and law enforcement officers. The luncheon was a significant gathering, with about 400 veterans in attendance, demonstrating the community's respect and gratitude for their service.
Major Sheri Ledford of the US Army graced the event with a patriotic performance of the National Anthem. The guest speaker for the event was Thomas E. Tuggle, II, the current Sheriff-Elect of Desoto County and a former Active Duty Marine. Tuggle, with his 30 years of experience in law enforcement and a history of graduating with distinct honors from every military or law enforcement training course he attended, brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the event. His election as the second Black sheriff in DeSoto County's modern era was a historic moment, and his presence at the luncheon was a testament to his commitment to serving and supporting veterans and law enforcement officers.
The luncheon was catered by First Choice Catering, a full-service catering company known for its dedication to providing excellent service and delicious food. They prepared a delightful Turkey & Dressing lunch, adding to the warm and festive atmosphere of the event.
The event was sponsored by Landers Auto Group, Civil-Link, LLC, and Bank 3, showing the strong support from local businesses for veterans and law enforcement officers. Their sponsorship not only helped make the event possible but also underscored the community's collective appreciation for the service and sacrifices of these individuals.
The 2023 Annual Veterans Day Appreciation Luncheon was a significant event that brought the City of Southaven together in a powerful display of respect and gratitude for the brave individuals who have served our country.
