Vance Godbey's was known far and wide for their great food. I always looked forward to standing in line in the converted ranch house to serve myself from multiple buffets of what seemed like endless choices.
As Thanksgiving is this week and the holiday season is in full swing, I want to share Vance Godbey's receipt for this favorite dish.
As I was growing up, our family would visit a "famous" restaurant - at least it seemed so to me - during the Holiday season every year Northwest of town on a bluff overlooking Eagle Mountain Lake. Vance Godbey's was known far and wide for their great food. I always looked forward to standing in line in the converted ranch house to serve myself from multiple buffets of what seemed like endless choices.
There were many dishes I came to enjoy - and because it was "all you can eat" I enjoyed a lot. But perhaps my favorite, given it was always the holiday season, was Vance Godbey's Orange Date Nut Bread.
Vance Godbey's Orange Date Nut Bread
1 pkg. Orange Supreme Cake Mix
1 whole orange (chopped fine, Peeling and all)
2 eggs slightly beaten
1 can date spread (6 ounce) or blend canned dates
3/4 cup Evaporated Milk
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Mix together and bake in an oiled bundt pan at 350 degrees for 50 minutes
Glaze:
1/2 cup Confectioners Sugar
1/2 cup water
1/2 tablespoon orange extract
chopped orange rind
color with orange food coloring
Mix glaze and drizzle over bread after having been cooled for at least 30 minutes.
That's it. Easy to make and a great addition to any meal this holiday season.
Please enjoy the season, be safe and be grateful for what we've been given.
