JustMyOpinion: The Age of Excuses is Over—Adult Consequences for Juvenile Violence
Local & National News | December 04, 2025
Memphis is done with excuses. A teen murder suspect is moved to adult court. We are reclaiming our city. Do the crime, do the time—at any age.

Written By JR Robinson

Memphis has had enough.

For too long, a dangerous misconception has plagued our streets: the idea that being young provides a shield against the consequences of violent actions. Let this serve as a wake-up call to anyone who thinks a birth date is a "get out of jail free" card.

The narrative changes today.

In a significant legal development, Jesse Martinez Jr., a juvenile, has been transferred to adult court. He is now facing charges of First Degree Murder in Perpetration of a Felony.

This charge stems from the senseless killing of 15-year-old Michael Aguilar in April. What began as a reported shooting near the Berclair neighborhood—specifically the 3900 block of Grahamdale—ended in tragedy. After the shooting, the young victim, desperate for help, was driven to a nearby fire station. Despite the best efforts of first responders and the medical team at Regional One Health, Michael died from his injuries.

He was 15. He had a life ahead of him. That life was stolen.

The transfer of Martinez Jr. to adult court sends a thunderous message to our community: If you commit adult crimes in Memphis, you will face adult penalties.

We are a city of grit, soul, and potential. We are tired of the headlines. We are tired of the grief. We are determined that Memphis will be #1 at something other than crime statistics. We are going to be #1 at holding perpetrators accountable and protecting our families.

"Do the Crime in Memphis, You Are Going to Do the Time."

This is not just a slogan; it is the standard. Whether you are 18, 25, or 15, if you pull a trigger and take a life, the justice system will meet you with the full force of the law. The transfer of this case is proof that the District Attorney’s Office is drawing a hard line in the sand.

To the families of Memphis: We hear you. To the youth of Memphis: Choose a different path, because the path of violence leads only to a prison cell.

We are taking our city back, one case at a time.

Status: This case remains ongoing. The defendant is now being prosecuted as an adult.
