Memphis, TN – In a bold move to enhance community well-being and safety, Shelby County Commissioner Charlie Caswell, Jr. is set to unveil the "Wraparound District 6" Public Safety Strategic Plan. This comprehensive initiative targets the transformation of Raleigh, Nutbush, and Unincorporated North Shelby County into trauma-informed and trauma-responsive environments. The plan focuses on creating safe, healthy, and nurturing spaces for all residents.
A Collaborative Effort with 7Ps Stakeholders
The launch event will take place on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Raleigh Civic Center. Commissioner Caswell will be joined by influential community stakeholders known as the 7Ps—Parents, Pastors, Principals, Police, Politicians, Proprietors, and Partners. Together, they will present a unified mission to mitigate Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and improve public safety, health, and education outcomes across District 6.
"This strategic plan is about building resilient communities where every child, family, and resident can thrive," stated Commissioner Caswell. "We are uniting resources and expertise to ensure District 6 becomes a safe, healthy, and prosperous place for all."
Core Focus Areas
The Wraparound District 6 Plan is structured around three core focus areas:
Resilience Hubs: Cornerstones of Community Support
A key component of the plan is the establishment of Resilience Hubs. These centers will serve dual purposes as community centers and emergency preparedness sites. They will offer after-school programs, job training, mental health support, and essential emergency supplies like food, water, and medical resources. Initially, two hubs will be launched with a third planned for Nutbush by 2025.
Community of Practice Framework
The initiative will utilize a Community of Practice (CoP) framework to bring stakeholders together for regular meetings to share resources and best practices. Progress will be tracked using data systems such as United Way's "Drive the Dream" database and the School Seed Foundation.
Funding and Future Plans
Commissioner Caswell has committed an initial seed investment of $600,000 to kickstart the initiative. Additional public and private funding is being sought to fully realize the plan's long-term vision.
