The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is making a triumphant return to the US market in the spring of 2024, with a heritage-inspired design and legendary off-road capabilities. Built in Toyota Motor Corporation's Tahara and Hino plants in Japan, the new Land Cruiser will be available in three distinct trims: 1958, Land Cruiser, and the limited-production First Edition.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2024 Land Cruiser features an i-Force Max hybrid powertrain, combining a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to produce a total output of up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a full-time two-speed 4WD system with a center locking differential and rear e-locker.
Off-Road Capabilities
The new Land Cruiser boasts 8.7 inches of ground clearance, a 31-degree approach angle, and a 25-degree breakover angle. It is slightly smaller and narrower than the outgoing 200 Series model, making it nimbler on the trails. The vehicle also features off-road tech that has debuted on the newest generation of Toyota trucks.
Interior and Technology
The 2024 Land Cruiser offers seating for up to five passengers. The base 1958 model features black fabric seats and an 8.0-inch touchscreen displaying Toyota's latest Audio Multimedia system, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Higher trims upgrade to a 12.3-inch touchscreen. All versions come with Toyota's Safety Sense 3.0 suite of driver-assistance tech, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian, cyclist, and motorcyclist detection; lane departure warning; road sign recognition; and automatic high beams, among other features.
First Edition
Limited to 5,000 units for the first two months of production, the First Edition grade includes two new two-tone paint colors and additional off-road equipment. This trim level brings even more premium features, such as a roof rack, rock rails, and a front skid plate.
Pricing and Availability
Manufacturer's suggested retail pricing for the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will start in the mid-$50,000 range and will be announced closer to its on-sale date. This represents a more accessible price point compared to the previous generation, which started at about $87,000.
In summary, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser pays homage to its legendary roots while offering modern hybrid power, advanced off-road capabilities, and a more accessible price point. With its combination of heritage-inspired design, cutting-edge technology, and rugged performance, the new Land Cruiser is poised to make a strong comeback in the US market.
