Dr. LaSonya Hall doesn’t use the words "corruption" or "mismanagement" lightly, but she isn’t blind to the "deplorable" state of the Shelby County Clerk’s office. For a woman who has spent 25 years in the trenches of city and county government—not as a politician, but as a senior-level executive administrator—the current state of the office is more than a frustration; it’s a failure of the basic social contract.

"I am a tried and true administrator, a public servant who has followed policy for over two decades," Dr. Hall says. "I’m running because I know how broken this system is, and fixing broken systems is literally what I’ve done for my entire career."

Dr. Hall’s approach is refreshing in its lack of political theater. She views the Clerk’s office as a "transactional machine" that should be run like a high-revenue corporation. Her platform is built on three clinical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Reducing Wait Times, Restoring Citizen Trust, and Running the Office Like a Business.

The "Chick-fil-A" Level of Service

Hall’s vision for the office is one of "automated innovation." She is looking at models in Texas, Minneapolis, and Atlanta, where tags can be secured through vending machines or at local convenience stores. She wants to see an office that works on "autopilot," where professionalism and customer service are the defaults.

"I want citizens to no longer feel distrustful of government," Hall explains. "Humility means seeing people where they are. I see our seniors in Whitehaven bringing lawn chairs and blankets at 6:00 AM just to wait for a tag. In a county with this much legacy and pride, that is unacceptable. We need a 'Chick-fil-A' level of service—efficient, polite, and effective."

The CEO of County Revenue

Dr. Hall understands that the Clerk’s office is the second-largest revenue generator for the county. When the office is inoperable, the entire county budget suffers. She is particularly concerned with the plight of auto dealerships, who have reported being blamed for the Clerk’s inefficiencies.

"Business is the underpinning of a thriving community," says Hall. "My relationships with all 95 county mayors and state legislators allow me to be a persuasive champion for the law changes we need to modernize our system. We need to leverage those relationships to ensure our auto dealers' brands are no longer tarnished by government incompetence."

A Foundation of Faith and Integrity

Steeped in a legacy of service—from her civil rights leader grandfather to her union-member mother—Dr. Hall’s "Personal Why" is rooted in her Christian faith. Having served as a first lady of her church for 20 years, she insisted on being called "Sister Hall" to stay grounded and connected to the people.

"I’m not running for personal ambition or to advance a political philosophy," Hall concludes. "I’m running to fix this for the people. After four years, I want the citizens to be shocked that there hasn't been a single negative story bringing shame to Shelby County. I want them to see an office that finally works for them."
