If you want to understand how Circuit Court Judge Chris (W. Christopher) Frulla operates, you have to look at his foundation. Long before he was ruling on complex cases, he earned his degree in Anthropology from the College of Charleston and spent time working in archaeology. It taught him a lesson that defines his courtroom today: You have to be careful, you have to be deliberate, and you must let the evidence tell the story.

In Shelby County, that level of careful, evidence-based decision-making isn't just nice to have—it is absolutely essential to protecting our community.

From the Trenches to the Bench

Judge Frulla didn't just stumble into his role. He earned his J.D. right here at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, rooting himself deeply in this city. He put in the grueling hours as a partner at the Memphis firm Rainey, Kizer, Reviere & Bell, PLC, handling intense civil litigation and defense. He built a reputation as a lawyer who outworked the room and fought with integrity.

That exact grit is why, in August 2025, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee appointed him to the Circuit Court, Division 3 bench to fill the vacancy left by Judge Valerie Smith’s elevation to the Court of Appeals.

But for Judge Frulla, an appointment wasn't the finish line. It was the starting line.

Changing the Political Playbook

On August 6, 2026, Judge Frulla is on the ballot to keep his seat in Division 3. In standard politics, this is the time when candidates start running exhausting, negative TV ads and hiding behind expensive PR firms.

But Judge Frulla is doing something different. He knows that the people of Memphis and Shelby County are tired of the noise. They want real connection. They want leaders who see the greatness in them.
