Prepare for an uproarious theatrical event as Something Rotten! bursts onto the Lohrey Theatre stage at Theatre Memphis from August 15 to September 7, 2025. This wildly entertaining musical comedy is set in 1590 and follows the Bottom brothers, Nick and Nigel, as they attempt to write the world’s very first musical. Stuck in the shadow of the legendary Shakespeare, their chaotic journey to theatrical greatness is filled with humor, heart, and unforgettable musical numbers.
Director and choreographer Whitney Branan describes Something Rotten! as “history unhinged into hilarity.” She explains that the show pushes the boundaries of traditional musical storytelling by blending historical couplets with modern jazz hands, codpieces with shuffles, and humor with heartfelt moments. “Whether you’re a Shakespeare super-fan, a Broadway aficionado, or someone who ‘doesn’t do theatre,’ you’ll laugh at least twelve times out loud. That’s a bona fide guarantee!” Branan promises.
