A Mission Rooted in Access and Empowerment

Since opening its doors in 2018, Memphis Rox has redefined what a gym can be. Here, climbing is more than a sport—it’s a metaphor for overcoming life’s obstacles, together. Rox welcomes everyone, regardless of ability to pay. If you can’t afford a membership, you can volunteer your time, energy, or encouragement. This pay-it-forward model ensures that no one is ever turned away, making Rox a true community hub where diversity, equity, and inclusion are lived values, not just words.

Programs That Change Lives

Memphis Rox is a lifeline for youth and families across South Memphis. Their after-school program offers mentorship, homework help, nutritious meals, and creative arts—all at no cost. The SoulSenders youth climbing team builds confidence, leadership, and friendship for kids ages 5–18, whether they’re beginners or seasoned climbers. The gym’s programs don’t stop at climbing: they include a community closet, food garden, and Juice Almighty café, which serves healthy meals and provides job opportunities for local residents.

When the pandemic hit, Rox didn’t close its heart. Instead, they launched meal distribution programs, handing out free lunches to anyone in need and partnering with other nonprofits to keep the streets clean and the community fed. Every month, Rox volunteers log countless hours supporting Soulsville neighbors, proving that service is at the core of their mission.

This week, tragedy has shaken the Rox family. The doors are closed so staff can grieve, regroup, and strengthen security. The loss is profound, and the pain is real. But as Rox prepares to reopen with a ceremonial climb after Mond’s funeral, they need Memphis to show up for them.
