Young men, especially those from underserved communities, often lack positive role models and resources to succeed in life. Mentors can fill this gap by providing guidance, support, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Research shows that mentoring can lead to increased high school graduation rates, lower dropout rates, healthier relationships and lifestyle choices, better attitudes about school, and improved academic performance. Mentoring has also been linked to social-emotional development benefits, improvements in youth perceptions of parental relationships, and better prospects for higher education.
A meaningful mentor can have a significant impact on a young man's life. At Men United, Inc, we understand that a guiding hand, a listening ear, and an empathetic heart could make an immeasurable difference in the lives of our young people. Our mission is to improve the quality of life within our communities and give young men the opportunity and resources needed to develop leadership skills. We will inspire, educate, train, and empower youth through character-building, innovative thinking, discipline, and accountability. By becoming a mentor, you can help shape the future of our young men and contribute to making the world a better place for all.
Mentoring is not only beneficial for the mentees but also for the mentors themselves. It provides an opportunity to give back to the community, develop leadership skills, and make a positive impact on someone's life. As an alum of the TFI program, Noah Morton shared, mentors can help young men of color prepare for college and careers by helping them "find the greatness within". By investing your time and energy in mentoring, you can help young men overcome challenges, set and achieve goals, and unlock their full potential.
In addition to providing mentorship, Men United, Inc creates tangible opportunities for young people to dream. We do this by taking them on college tours, providing them with scholarships, and mentoring them on their journey. Last year, we were able to take 50 young men on college trips and awarded 17 of those young people scholarships to begin their college education. By supporting our organization, you can help us expand and deepen our impact, providing even more opportunities for our young men to excel.
Join us in celebrating National Mentoring Month, a time to grow the movement and celebrate the power of supportive and meaningful mentor relationships. Learn how you can participate by exploring MENTOR's resources and engage on social media using the hashtags #MentoringAmplifies and #MentoringMonth through January. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our young men and create a better future for all.
