Porter-Leath’s 30th Annual Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival presented by Valero returns on Sunday, April 16 from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. on Riverside Drive, between Jefferson and Union. Each year, the festival supports programs and services that Porter-Leath provides for over 40,000 local children and their families to achieve healthy, optimal and independent lifestyles.
Recognized among Memphians as the unofficial start of spring, Rajun Cajun is one of the few Memphis festivals that maintains free admission. The festival offers fun for all Mid-South families, including crawfish bobbing, eating and racing contests. And children ages 12 and under can play a variety of age-appropriate activities at the Downtown Memphis Commission Kids Area in River Garden Park.
The Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival is the largest one-day crawfish festival in the Mid-South, with over 35,000 attendees and 17,000 pounds of fresh Louisiana crawfish. The festival will feature live swamp soul, rhythm & blues and funk fusion entertainment from Hope Clayburn’s Soul Scrimmage on the Orion Main Stage, Freeworld on the Southland Casino Hotel Stage, and Dikki Du and The Zydeco Krewe on the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Stage.
“We’re back with our largest edition of Rajun Cajun yet to celebrate its 30 th birthday this year,” said Rob Hughes, Vice President of Development at Porter-Leath. “And with free admission, Rajun Cajun is a special experience everybody can share and all to support Porter-Leath’s mission. Remember, ‘eat crawfish, help children!’”
Over twenty gumbo teams will compete in the annual Cash Saver Gumbo Cook-Off to claim this year’s skillet trophy and cash prizes. And festival-goers can purchase KING’s Rightly Seasoned Swamp VIP Tent tickets at $125 per person and $225 per pair for a VIP experience with unlimited crawfish, Cajun buffet, beer and soft drinks from noon until 5 p.m.
