Elect Michael G. Floyd

Attorney Michael G. Floyd was born October 17, 1955 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Dave and Laura Floyd.  He is the youngest of eleven children.  He was a member of the chess club and President of the Black Student Union at Roxborough High School in Philadelphia.  He was also an athlete, excelling in football and track which earned him a track scholarship to Le Moyne-Owen College in Memphis. 
 
Attorney Floyd later transferred to Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee where he was an active member of the NAACP, participating in demonstrations which affected legislation as well as a high profile Civil Rights case, Garner v. Tennessee, which was heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.  He was also a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., at Le Moyne-Owen and Tennessee State University.  He graduated from Tennessee State University in 1978 with a B.S. in History and a minor Sociology. 
 
Attorney Floyd attended North Carolina Central University Law School in Durham, North Carolina, earning his Juris Doctorate degree in 1982.  He is a member of the Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Eastern and Western District of Arkansas, the Supreme Court of Tennessee, United States Court of Appeals for the Third and Sixth Circuits, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, the United States Tax Court and the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
 
Attorney Floyd has tried numerous Death penalty cases, Medical Malpractice cases, Civil Rights cases, as well as cases involving Police Brutality and Employment Discrimination. 
 
He served as Arbitration Judge for the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County from 1995-2000; appointed Master of Divorce Matters (Divorce Referee) in Philadelphia County in 1993 and was appointed Special Judge for Memphis City Court in 2005. In addition, Attorney Floyd is the Past Assistant Director of Legal Affairs and Past Assistant Grand Attorney for The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Tennessee and the former Worshipful Master of Mt. Pisgah Lodge No.180. He is currently in private practice and is outside litigation counsel for the Memphis Shelby County Education Association.
 
Attorney Floyd is married to June Alice Floyd, a Shelby County Educator.  He is a member of Temple Church of God in Christ.  A member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity, the National Bar Association, Ben F. Jones Chapter, Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club, Memphis NAACP, Fayette County NAACP, Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons, United Supreme Council, Southern Jurisdiction, I B.P.O.E.W, George W. Lee Lodge and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Past Board member Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change. He is committed and dedicated to service and has hope and vision for a better Memphis and Shelby County
