Ed Holt Jr. is a Navy veteran, career educator, and former accountant for the Shelby County Clerk’s Office. A Memphis resident since 2002, Ed has spent nearly two decades serving the community as a middle school teacher in Shelby County.

Professional Background:

  • Shelby County Clerk’s Office: In 2023, Ed transitioned from the classroom to serve as an accountant within the Clerk’s Office. During his tenure, he gained firsthand "insider" experience with the office’s financial operations and internal challenges, identifying key areas for modernization and improved service delivery.

  • Education: Since 2006, he has taught English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science to middle schoolers, a role he returned to in 2024 while launching his campaign.

  • Military Service: Ed is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, completing his tour of duty in 2002 before settling in Memphis.

Community & Personal Life: Ed is deeply involved in the cultural and civic life of Memphis. He is a member of the Memphis Symphony Chorus and the a cappella group DeltaCappella. He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and teaches self-defense classes.

He and his wife, Tammy, are the parents of four children: Marvin, Nadia, Sabella, and Ethan.

Campaign Vision: Running as a "knowledge-based" candidate, Ed emphasizes his unique perspective as someone who has already worked within the Clerk’s Office. His platform focuses on utilizing his accounting background to fix outdated financial reporting systems and improve the overall efficiency of the office for Shelby County constituents.
