About
Anthony J. Buckner is a dedicated law enforcement professional with over 20 years of experience serving the Shelby County community. As the current Chief Deputy of Tennessee's largest sheriff's office, he oversees approximately 2,500 inmates and nearly 1,500 employees, demonstrating his exceptional leadership and management skills.
Buckner's commitment to public safety and community service is deeply rooted in his upbringing in inner-city Memphis, where he learned the value of hard work and responsibility. His impressive career trajectory within the Shelby County Sheriff's Office includes roles such as Fugitive, Patrol, Gang Unit, Narcotics, Crime Prevention, Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Courts Sergeant, Lieutenant in Internal Affairs, Captain in the Public Information Office, and Chief Inspector as Director of Training.
With a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Bethel University, as well as graduation from the prestigious FBI National Academy, Buckner brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role of Sheriff.
